I recently watched a small-time documentary by a YouTube person on life in the ruralest parts of Appalachia. Deep red places. He talked with multiple locals who estimated that something like 50% of them got by on “checks”, which is their euphemism for welfare when they’re the ones receiving it (mostly SSDI).
It was sad but interesting.
You don’t understand, they’re against the lazy ones getting welfare not the ones who are hard workers but haven’t been able to find work for ten years.
