Man, Voyager has been having issues with images lately. This didn’t load with a message:
{"code":"validate-width","msg":"Too wide"}
Ah, this is a gif - I would have thought that worked across instances, maybe not?
If you haven’t yet, check out the latest steamos update - they finally added battery charge limits it won’t help a dying battery get better, but it may stave off the demise.
I came here for the bicycle from scratch instructions.
How hard is it to get into welding if your day job has nothing to do with it? Are there like… classes or something? Is there a setup like an easy bake oven, but for welding?
My only experience with “heat up a thing until it flows, then use molten thing to join two parts” is some soldering of electronics.
They’re also no picnic for people who want kids but can’t have them despite years of trying.
Well, looks like the National Institute for the Deaf (NTID) had at one point partnered with Georgia Tech on an app, PopSign, but that download link doesn’t work anymore.
Similarly, NTID had a free class, but it got cancelled.
I’m a little surprised there isn’t more from the first (and largest) national technical deaf institute…
I love my steam deck. It’s the reason why I finally ditched Windows for Linux on my gaming PC.
This past week I got into emulation on it and have been shocked at how well it has been performing.
Oh there’s definitely some elder gods involved with programming when I do it.
Yeah, well, about that. https://www.supremecourt.gov/docket/docketfiles/html/public/24a966.html (note this is a preliminary injunction to allow Trump to fire democrat members of a Congressionally appointed bi-partision governing body - just like the Fed).
From the dissent:
The majority closes today’s order by stating, out of the blue, that it has no bearing on “the constitutionality of for-cause removal protections” for members of the Federal Reserve Board or Open Market Committee. Ante, at 2. I am glad to hear it, and do not doubt the majority’s intention to avoid imperiling the Fed. But then, today’s order poses a puzzle. For the Federal Reserve’s independence rests on the same constitutional and analytic foundations as that of the NLRB, MSPB, FTC, FCC, and so on—which is to say it rests largely on Humphrey’s.
The whole opinion (PDF link) is worth reading, but basically SCOTUS just gave a green light to fire independent board members without cause. The Fed absolutely is in danger, even if the majority of the court thinks that for some magical reason the same legal basis that allows the termination of National Labor Relations Board (NLRB) and Merit Systems Protection Board (MSPB) doesn’t apply.
There’s a great podcast, Main Justice that goes into this better than I possibly can.
Oh, that’s very true. I’ve used most on Ubuntu in the past as well.
To me, CachyOS shockingly seems really stable and “fast” in a subjective way.
At the risk of saying, “I use arch btw” - I’ve found CachyOS to be fairly great.
I’m running it on my Rog Zephyrus M16 purchased in late 2023 (it came with Windows 11). It’s great for pretty much all games that I’ve thrown at it with proton, Heroic games handles Amazon Games, Epic, and GOG stuff.
You have lots of options (probably too many to be honest) for getting windows programs to run on Linux - ranging from very hands on with no-frills wine to more hand holding things like Lutris or Bottles.
My wife (who is only a techie from osmosis) switched to CachyOS on her laptop and seems to be fine with it (her game of choice is Last Epoch and it’s painless to run).
@Kaput@lemmy.world - this looks similar, but has weird eyes.

If that big, beautiful bill goes through, they really won’t. IIRC it strips out the ability for courts to hold people in contempt unless they have a cash bond or some shit.
It’s typically stylized mRemoteNG.
No, see, if we just give it all the energy, burn our skies and boil our oceans to make AI better, then it’ll for sure tell us how to unfuck everything.
/S
I get what you’re saying, but the problem is that AI seems to need way more hand holding and double checking before it can be considered ready for deployment.
I’ve used copilot for Ansible/Terraform code and 40-50% of the time it’s just… wrong. It looks right, but it won’t actually function.
For easy, entry programs it’s fine, but I wouldn’t (and don’t) let it near complex projects.
Did they check one of the prisoners for elaborate tattoos before incarceration?
Oh my god people. If you’re going that remote, get yourself a Garmin InReach. It has an SOS button and satellite service.
I always reply with, “Or we could right-click on that to see our options”.
IIRC, he was the designated driver too.
